As promised, this  was the first of many energy saving products to be offered wholesale to our membership. Last year members ordered almost 1000 units.

 

The Intellicon HW+ is a microcomputer controlled device that saves about 14% of oil usage in the winter and about 28% of your oil in the summer. It is money-back guaranteed by the manufacturer* to save 10%. Once installed on your oil burner, it takes 72 hours to take in the operating information of your system. Once armed with that knowledge, it takes control of the burner. At today’s prices for oil, payback for the device is 8 to 12 months. Intellidyne also made a unit under private label to R.W. Beckett Corp. called the Beckett Heat Manager. The Beckett Heat Manager is a five year old, non-programmable version, unsuited for “Cold Start” systems. The Intellidyne is a fifth generation, programmable unit  and may be used on most systems.

 

TESTING:

Brookhaven National Laboratory  testing demonstrated a 14.2% reduction in oil usage.

ETL Testing Labs Results: During the Winter, fuel usage was reduced 11.5% and burner run-time was reduced 12.5%. During the Spring/Fall, fuel usage was reduced 27.2% and burner run-time was reduced 28.3%. Brookhaven 14.2%. The Intellicon HW+ provided significantly more savings than the guaranteed minimum 10%.

The unit was also field tested in Levittown, NY. “The average fuel usage decrease of 14.9%, equates to approximately 110 gallons less oil used to heat their homes,” said Mike Ruff, “For the average home, it works out to between $350 and $400 in savings annually, as well as a reduction of carbon dioxide and particulate emissions into the environment.”  More  Intellicon HW test information.

Who Should Buy: Anyone with an oil or propane furnace.  A similar unit, the "FA+", for ducted hot air systems. Savings are similar. Please specify if you have this system .  It is $20 more.  Call Intellidyne at 866-216-0777 to see if your furnace is compatible.

 

Who Should not Buy: If you bought a new proportional flame heating system** in the last couple of years, you would not see savings to justify purchase. These new systems**, cost 30% more than regular systems and have been primarily propane/gas units. Hot Water Heating System Fuel Economizer

A heating system must be able to provide acceptable comfort at the lowest anticipated outdoor temperatures. In the U.S. and abroad, most residential boilers have a heat capacity between 1.5 to 2 times larger than that needed to maintain the room temperature on those extreme days. Due to this over-sizing of the boiler, the burner will cycle on and off repeatedly to prevent overheating of the system water during any call for heat. Using our patented technology, IntelliCon�-HW+ increases system efficiency. Thus, the heating system uses less fuel to generate the same amount of heat. This is done by dynamically changing the aquastat’s effective dead-band based upon the measured heating load. This causes the average water temperature to be varied (depending upon the measured load), and is accomplished by extending the burners off-time. Extending the off-time also results in longer burns that are more efficient and a reduction in burner on/off cycling. Just as computer control has increased the gas mileage of automobiles, IntelliCon-HW+ improves the fuel utilization of heating systems, by supplementing the antiquated on/off control action of the aquastat with the analysis and control capabilities of a computer. Installation is simple for a qualified service technician. IntelliCon-HW+ typically reduces fuel consumption 10% to 20% and usually decreases burner cycling 30% or more.
